Kuala Pilah bypass to be built to ease traffic congestion.

The stretch, to be known as the Kuala Pilah bypass, will be built from Melang to Serting, after which it will be linked to the Keratong Highway at Negri Sembilan’s border with Pahang.

Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department was now looking at proposals submitted by three bidders.

“There are several processes more to be completed before EPU awards the tender to the successful bidder,” he said.

Motorists travelling between Seremban and the east coast often have to put up with massive congestion when passing through Kuala Pilah.

Some can be caught in traffic crawls for several kilometres, especially during the weekends or school holidays.

The stretch from here to the east coast is also popular with motorists, including owners of commercial vehicles, as it is toll-free.

On a separate matter, Mohamad said the state government wanted the Federal authorities to complete the 20km Ulu Bendul-Melang stretch under the third rolling plan next year.

“The first two phases from Seremban to Bukit Putus and Bukit Putus to Ulu Bendul covering a distance of about 15km have been completed and this has helped reduce traffic congestion on certain stretches along Jalan Seremban-Kuala Pilah.

“However, we need the third phase of the project to be completed as the stretch is often jammed due to the heavy traffic volume,” he said.

Mohamad expressed confidence that the project could be completed quickly as it did not involve much land acquisition.

“We have made some changes to the alignment and there is very little land acquisition involved.

“We hope the Federal authorities can quickly approve the budget for the project as the stretch needs to be widened to cope with traffic volume,” he added.
