MUKAH: Tan Sri Adenan Satem wants July 22 to be declared as Sarawak Independence Day and made a state holiday.
The Chief Minister said declaring July 22 a state holiday was to recognise the efforts of those who fought for the independence of the Sarawak from British colonial rule.
Speaking at the launch of the Sejiwa Senada programme Saturday, Adenan also said that residential property assessment rates would be reduced.
Adenan said the reduction of the assessment rate was to reduce the burden of the people in view of the increasing cost of living.
He said that the state cabinet would convene soon to discuss these two matters.
Adenan also announced the three candidates contesting for seats in the area.
