The 11am raid was led by SPAN consumer complaint and enforcement unit officer Mohadir Hid at two properties used to house construction workers in Kemayan Square, Seremban.
According to SAINS public relations chief Norzita Ismail, enforcement officers found the occupants had connected a 13mm diameter pipe to the mains illegally.
“The occupants were using the illegal piping to take water for daily use in both properties.
“SAINS enforcement officers carried out chlorine tests to prove the water supply belonged to SAINS. We confiscated the water pipe as evidence,” she said.
Norzita said the case would be investigated under Section 89(9) of the 2006 National Water Services Industry Act for illegally restarting a disconnected water supply.
The offence carries a penalty of a RM50,000 fine, six months in jail, or both.
SAINS will continue monitoring and acting on water theft by any user in the state.
“This stern action is one of the ways to reduce non-revenue water (NRW),” she added. – July 30, 2015
