KUANTAN (June 16): The government today launched the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Project (PPA1M) for the Kuantan district, here today to ensure as many civil servants could own homes in the urban areas.
The groundbreaking ceremony and the launching of the project was performed by the chief secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
When approached by reporters after the launching ceremony, Ali Hamsa said the government was targeting to build 217 units of double-storey terraced houses to be sold at RM296,000 to civil servants in the Kuantan district.
"The project, built on 18.1 acres of land owned by developer Webcon Builders Sdn Bhd, is expected to be ready within two years," he said.
Also present were the chairman of the State Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, Datuk Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail who represented Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and state secretary Datuk Seri Muhammad Safian Ismail.
Ali Hamsa said the project, implemented with the cooperation of the state government, received encouraging response when more than 200 civil servants registered for the purchase one hour after it was opened for sale at the launching site.
Earlier in his speech, Ali Hamsa said balloting for the houses would be carried out after a screening process to ensure that only purchasers who fulfilled the requirements were allowed to own the houses. - theedgeproperty
