“We have allocated RM100,000 to a private company, which specialises in scanning books, to set up the database for e-books.
“In two months, the Negeri Sembilan Library Corporation members will be able to download e-books.
“We will be able to include some tens of thousand of books into the e-library system,” Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said after chairing the weekly state Exco meeting at Wisma Negeri today.
Adding that the move was in the hope of attracting more locals — especially the younger generation — to pick up reading as a habit, Mohamad said the number of e-books in the state’s library would be the largest in the country.
“When it is ready, people can sign up to be members of the library for free to gain access and borrow the available e-books.
“Users can choose to sign up as members manually or through the library’s website.
“Thereafter, they can key in their username and password to access the e-books.”
However, Mohamad said he did not have a specific target but hoped that more students would be encouraged to apply for the system.
Speaking on a different matter, Mohamad said any state government agency that had not updated its web pages would see its Key Performance Indicators (KPI) slashed.
“They must understand that with the current advancement in technology, the webpages need to be frequently updated.
“If we see that this requirement is not met, their KPI marks will be deducted.” - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
