More CCTV cameras should be installed in Seremban

 


SEREMBAN: Police have proposed that more closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras be installed in Seremban town as a measure to reduce the crime rate.

Negri Sembilan Police chief DCP Datuk Jaafar Mohd Yusof said the CCTV cameras should be installed in crime "hotspots" such as banks and jewellery shops.

"Feedback received from the premise managers shows that most cases committed in such areas are snatch thefts and car break-ins. The CCTV cameras will enhance surveillance, intelligence and arrests.

"We will discuss with higher authorities on the most suitable locations and number of CCTV cameras to be installed," he told reporters after visiting several business premises in Seremban town here, today.

Jaafar said through the visit, he found that all premises in the areas had installed CCTV cameras and reminded the owners to ensure that they were in good condition.

"Sometimes, the CCTV cameras are out of focus. As such, the CCTV cameras will be of no help to the police when crime occurs. After this, we will be visiting the jewellery shops."

He said the police also need the local residents to become the "eyes and ears" of the police to assist them achieve zero crime rate in Seremban. – Bernama
