Sime Prop to develop affordable houses, shoplots worth RM210m

JOHOR BARU: Sime Darby Property Bhd will be building 733 units of affordable houses and 171 units of medium-cost shoplots with a gross development value of RM210 million at the Sime Darby Business Park in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

Sime Darby president and group chief executive Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh said the project would be developed over phases.

Phase One, with 184 housing units and 108 shoplots, had already started, he said.

Mohd Bakke said at the launch of the project, here, on Saturday that Sime Darby Property would proceed with the next phase if there was a market demand.

The project is part of the Johor Affordable Homes Project (RMMJ), a development
venture under the Johor People’s Housing Policy.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who launched the project, said under the RMMJ, 37,000 houses would be built by 2018, compared with the earlier target of 28,000.

“The local authorities are monitoring a number of developers to ensure that they fulfil the state government’s conditions on building affordable houses.

“We will not hesitate to freeze projects that do not meet set conditions,” he added.
