Panda Complex Opens To Public Next Week

The public can have the first glance of giant pandas Feng Yi and Fu Wa on June 27 at the panda complex at Zoo Negara.

Zoo Negara deputy president Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana said entrance tickets to the complex would be available on the same day at the zoo’s website.

The tickets are RM20 for adults and RM10 for children aged between 3 and 12.

“We can accommodate only 3,500 visitors at the complex daily. We hope visitors will plan their visit as the zoo has about 12,000 visitors during weekends.”

Rosly said adjustments to the complex were made during the pandas’ one-month quarantine, which started on May 21.

“We adjusted the water pressure at a man-made waterfall in the complex as the pandas dislike loud noise.

“We are also increasing the maximum temperature from 24°C to 27°C based on the temperature at the pandas’ native home in China.”

Rosly said the pandas usually ate and slept, and were fed 30kg of bamboo each.

He said the pandas had been trained to be comfortable in the exhibition area of the complex.

“On June 21, a trial session will be held, where about 900 visitors comprising zoo staff and their family members will view the pandas before the opening day.”

Rosly said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to launch the complex on June 25.

“There will also be a celebration to commemorate the 40 years of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China, as well as the zoo’s 50th anniversary, on the same day.”

The zoo will close at 3pm on that day instead of 5pm. -New Straits Times
